Richard grew up on his family farm in Derbyshire where he grew his passion for landscape and horticulture. Richard has studied horticulture at Broomfield college, landscape construction and technology at Pershore college, Garden Design at the English Gardening School and received a diploma in Landscape Architecture from Writtle College.

Richard is also a pre-registered member of the Society of Garden Designers. The studio works on the principle of connecting designs to people and place.

The designs focus on enhancing the landscape, planting native species with year round interest which improves the local biodiversity, strengthening the need for detail in design. Design is influenced by the lives we live and by those who will engage with the space.

Approach

Richard works to the highest professional standards from the first meeting to the client experiencing the final product.

During the initial stages working concepts are presented with planting and material palettes. Masterplans are generated with perspective views of the proposed design.

Working closely with people in specialised professions every design is executed to the highest standard.

The process of design follows these key principles:

> Meeting and site visit

> Site survey

> Design brief

> Fee structure and schedule

> Concept plans

> Master plan

> Layout plan

> Project management

> Construction

Furniture

Creating working structures requires an approach where art, craft and design unite to form simple yet functional pieces for our everyday lives. Inspiration evolves from the landscape garden design joining with visible elements to create unique pieces. Materials are carefully selected to ensure a durable finish which will retain its quality. Construction is carried out by craftsmen or in some cases by Richard on site during the landspape and design project. The aim is to provide a bespoke personal design and supply service.
